Final rites were held Friday in the Cloyd-Gorder Mortuary Chapel for Mrs. Lulu Belle Carpenter,
82, widow of DeWayne Carpenter, who died April 9 in Community Memorial Hospital here of a brain hemmorhage.
The Rev. George Sanders, pastor of Lonsdale Methodist Church, officiated.
She was born in Jewell County, Kan., Feb. 29, 1876, a daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Adonijah Hulings, and grew up in that area. She married Dwaine (DeWayne) Carpenter in Horton, Kan., Dec. 25, 1894, and they lived in Horton until 1916 when they came to Richland county and filed on a homestead in the Elmdale community north-west of Lambert. In 1925 they moved to Sidney, and Mr. Carpenter worked at carpentry until his death in 1954. Surviving are two brothers, Russell Hulings of Sidney and Don Hulings, Horton, Kan. At the services Mrs. Walter Quilling sang "In the Garden" and "The Lord's with Mrs. Ralph Criger as accompanist. Pallbearers, all nephews, were Kenneth Klasna and Joseph O. Klasna, Russell Hulings Jr. and Donald, Ted and Kenneth Goss. Interment was in the family plot in the Sidney Cemetery. |
