Bear tracks in firtex siding - Spring 1957
Dad had put a kettle of beans to simmer on the cook stove one evening before going down the road to visit the Halverson’s.
The next morning he found these bear tracks on the side of the cabin, next to the window above the stove.
Apparently the bear liked the smell of the beans and tried to climb in the window.
It was probably scared away by the sound of the returning truck.

He had cut all the trees. He may have decided it was time for a career change.
Dad put the tree farm operation back in storage, and returned home.
The recent death of Grandma Goss and gathering of relatives at Kalispell may have inspired
a reunion visit to eastern Montana. It had been 21 years since they left Poplar.
