A Montana Highway Department representative visited the San Rafael house with their plans to build a new road.
Highway 83 would provide an improved connection between northern and southern Flathead Valley,
passing near Swan Lake and Seely Lake, between the Mission Range and the Swan Range.
The road would cut diagonally across the tree farm, near the lower end.
The highway right-of-way was sold, price unknown.
